Yesterday, Nvidia became the most valuable company in the world, passing Microsoft with an eye-watering $3.34 trillion market cap.

The historic milestone comes after the companyā€™s stock has risen nearly 210% in the past year and 181% YTD.

Why are people so bullish? Aside from the superb leadership of their legendary CEO, Jensen Huang, Nvidia has been the literal backbone of the AI revolution.

šŸ’¬ Of the $3.34 trillion market cap, more than $2 trillion has been added this year.

šŸ’¬ Jensen Huang's net worth is now roughly $119 billion.

Nvidia is by far the worldā€™s leading chip manufacturer for artificial intelligence and data centers, holding approximately 80% of the AI chip market used in data centers.

Some of their clients include:

  • Microsoft

  • Google

  • Amazon (AWS)

  • Meta (Facebook)

  • Apple

  • IBM

  • Dell

  • Oracle

  • Tesla

  • OpenAI

Revenue from Nvidia's data center business rose 427% year-over-year to $22.6 billion in Q1.

And (not to be outdone), on their recent Q1 earnings call, the company also knocked almost every other key metric out of the park:

  • Total Revenue: $26 billion (vs. $7.19 billion a year ago).

  • Net Income: $14.88 billion, or $5.98 per share (vs. $2.04 billion, or $0.82 per share a year ago).

  • Earnings: $6.12 per share (vs. $5.59 expected).

Nvidia is the gift that keeps on giving to investors.

It is easily the best-performing stock of the last quarter-century, posting a total return of 591,078% since going public and continuing to dazzle analysts and YouTube day traders alike.

šŸ“ˆ Nvidia ($NVDA) stock is up 181.46% this year.

TECHNOLOGY
šŸµ Neuralink sued after employee scratched by monkeys

šŸ“ø KCRA

Didnā€™t think it could get crazier at one of Elon Muskā€™s companies? Think again.

A lawsuit against his brain chip company, Neuralink, which aims to help paralyzed people walk again, claims that an employee was scratched by monkeys infected with herpes and fired after she became pregnant.

Lindsay Short, who started working at Neuralink as an animal care specialist in 2022, stated that Neuralink never provided ā€œadequateā€ protective gear for her and others who were constantly exposed to animals, like monkeys, that carry deadly diseases.

In September 2022, the first incident occurred.

In the suit, Short alleges that a monkey had reached through the bars of its cage and scratched her through her glove, ā€œbreaking the skin.ā€

  • The wild incident ended up ā€œcontaminatingā€ her and ā€œexposing her to Herpes B in the process.ā€

  • And then, in another wild occurrence that allegedly took place in March 2023, Short claimed she was scratched across the face by a monkey carrying the Herpes B virus.

Neuralink is really giving off Gen-Sys laboratory vibes from "Planet of the Apes."

Weā€™re just hoping these incidents donā€™t lead to the downfall of humanity, like in the movie.

And that's not even the end of the monkey business.

  • When Short requested medical treatment for the injuries caused by the monkeys, her superiors allegedly threatened her with ā€œsevere repercussionsā€ if something similar happened again.

  • Damn, it canā€™t get any worse than that, can it? Last June, Short informed the human resources department that she was pregnant: Mazal Tov!

However, that wasnā€™t exactly Neuralink's reaction to the announcement.

  • After the wonderful news, Short reasonably asked HR to ā€œengage with her in the interactive process to determine whether reasonable accommodations could be made for her.ā€

  • You know, so she can take care of the newborn baby she was about to birth.

And the very next day, Short was fired by her bosses, who referenced ā€œperformance issues.ā€

  • ā€œThe razor-thin, one-day difference between Shortā€™s disclosure that she was pregnant and her wrongful termination strongly suggests retaliation.ā€

Sheesh, this is really not a good look for Neuralink.

The final receipt: Short is officially suing the company for retaliation, wrongful termination, and gender discrimination ā€” among other claims.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
šŸ¤– Ilya Sutskever, co-founder of OpenAI, is starting a ā€œsafeā€ AI company

šŸ“ø The Australian

Ilya Sutskever has been one of the most impactful figures in the world of AI over the past couple of decades.

Sutskever got his first real stint in the field working for Google, where he contributed to the development of technologies like the Google Translate neural machine translation system.

  • Around the same time, a little company called OpenAI was being started by Elon Musk and Sam Altman.

  • Soon after learning about Sutsekevers' remarkable skills and knowledge in the field, Elon Musk decided to steal him from Google.

Sutskever joined OpenAI in December 2015 as a co-founder with both Musk and Altman, with the goal of ensuring artificial general intelligence (AGI) benefits all of humanity.

He served as the Chief Scientist, leading OpenAIā€™s research efforts and focusing on its capabilities and safety.

  • However, similar to Musk, Sutskever eventually became concerned about how quickly Altman was advancing OpenAIā€™s technologies and the potential dangers they might pose to humanity.

  • So, in November, he tried ousting Altman from his role as CEO, which worked for about a day until Altman was brought back, and Sutskever was stuck in limbo, not fired from the company but not technically part of it either.

Sutskever eventually left, and today, he announced his very own AI company.

In a statement:

  • "Superintelligence is within reach. Building safe superintelligence (SSI) is the most important technical problem of our time.

  • We've started the worldā€™s first straight-shot SSI lab with one goal and one product: a safe superintelligence.

  • Itā€™s called Safe Superintelligence Inc.

  • ā€œSSI is our mission, our name, and our entire product roadmap because it is our sole focus. Our team, investors, and business model are all aligned to achieve SSI."

Despite the ups and downs, Sutskever is not giving up on his mission to make AI safe and beneficial for humanity.

Kudos, Ilya.
